Brown Dust 2 Getting Started
A first-week map for the lobby, story packs, Infinite Draw, and the resources that actually matter.
Brown Dust 2 throws two interfaces at you: a cartridge shelf for stories and a tactical grid for fights. This beginner guide is the order of operations we wish the tutorial used. Download from the App Store, Google Play (com.neowizgames.game.browndust2), or the Windows PC client. Link an account before you care about the account. Guest is fine for a test; bind Google, Apple, or NEOWIZ before you plus a costume you like.
Redeem 2026BD2SEP on the codes hub as soon as the lobby exists. Then come back here. Do not open every banner because the UI is pretty.
Hour one
- Play the tutorial without skipping the combat pop-ups. You can skip story lines; do not skip the pages that explain knockback, SP, and costume skills.
- Set a nickname you can type on the coupon site. Details: how to redeem.
- Open Infinite Draw and take a 5-star costume plus the accompanying gear. The reroll guide lists targets. If you hate the result, you can redraw on that banner without deleting the account.
- Slot the free story units the pack hands you. Justia, Lathel, Helena, Kry, and Wiggle all appear early depending on which packs you clear. You do not need a full gacha team to beat the opening cartridges.
The lobby has a home shelf of game packs. Story packs are the main plot. Character packs are side stories that often grant a costume. Event packs are timed. Play story packs first; they drop upgrade mats and teach lanes. Event FOMO is real — read current events so you know whether a collab shop expires this week — but do not stall the tutorial for a banner you cannot gear yet.
The two things the tutorial under-explains
Costumes are skills. Pulling a costume for a character you already own adds a second skill you can swap to in battle. Pulling the first costume of a new name unlocks that character. You almost never “unlock a unit” as a separate gacha. Read costumes before you spend Dia.
Plus ranks on supports beat a random DPS. Duplicates raise a costume from +0 toward +5. Supports work at low copies, but their buffs scale hard with plus. Attackers without a buff stack look impressive in the first pack and stall on Fiend Hunter. The team-building guide and support roster are the spend maps.
First-week resource rules
- Dia — premium. Save for a banner you will plus, or for 12-Pick tickets if the shop is selling them. Do not 10-pull “because the art is new.”
- Draw Tickets / Selective Tickets — 12-Pick is the beginner banner. 1-Pick is a later precision tool. See reroll.
- Refining Powder and upgrade mats — dump into one physical line or one magic line, not into five characters evenly. Story stamina is the bottleneck, not your roster size.
- Gear — exclusive weapons (EX) bound to a costume are worth the craft. Random SR you will replace can wait. The tools hub has the daily loop.
- Stamina — spend it. Caps waste more progress than a slightly wrong farm stage.
Build a story team, not a screenshot team
Story packs care about AoE shapes. A plus-shaped skill, an X skill, a column skill, and a knockback that lines those shapes up will clear stages that a single-target legendary cannot. Justia’s early costumes deal fixed damage, which ignores defense and also cannot crit — that is a feature for story, not a bug. Kry’s free 4-star kits carry early packs. Wiggle’s self-destruct is a panic button, not a Fiend plan.
Pick a damage type: physical or magic. Mix only when a pack forces it. Raise:
- one attacker you actually like,
- two buffers whose buffs stack in different categories (ATK vs vulnerability vs chain),
- one healer or damage reducer for elites,
- one knockback or chainer.
Names for those roles live on players, attackers, and the PvE tier list. Do not treat a general S-tier block as a story team. Morpeah and Apostle Blade are real, and they are not who you plus on day two.
Combat homework
After two packs, read combat. Practice:
- dragging turn order so knockback happens before the AoE,
- moving a unit off a telegraph during your turn,
- spending SP only when the shape hits two or more enemies,
- watching the chain number on a single elite.
If you skip that homework, Fiend Hunter feels like a different game. It is the same grid with less forgiveness.
PC, Steam, and accounts
Steam’s December 2025 launch was cancelled. The PC client page covers the official Windows launcher, account linking, and why you should not wait for a storefront that is not coming back. Mobile and PC share the same roster.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Brown Dust 2 questions.
Should I reroll on day one?
Only if you enjoy it. Infinite Draw already guarantees a 5-star costume. See the reroll guide.
What should I spend Dia on first?
A buffer you will plus, usually through 12-Pick, not a limited attacker. Team building explains why.
Is Brown Dust 2 pay-to-win on story?
No. Story packs are built so free units and earned costumes clear them. Money speeds costumes and plus ranks for Fiend Hunter and Mirror Wars.
Where do I redeem the beginner coupon?
Follow how to redeem and enter the live code on the codes hub.
